Trump SoHo (Finally) Topped Off

Trump SoHo (Finally) Topped Off
Rubenstein PR.

Days after Donald Trump sued his lenders to extend a massive construction loan for his unfinished Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago (on account of the "unprecedented financial crisis"), the big-haired billionaire has a little good real estate news to brighten his week. According to a press release, his Trump SoHo has "completed its final construction pour," which means the 46-story, 449-foot-tall glass monolith has been topped off.

A slightly misspelled press release quotes Mr. Trump saying, "We are thrilled that Trump SoHo has topped off. As the area’s tallest building, it has unparalled [sic] panoramic views of the New York City skyline including the Hudson River, Statue of Liberty, and Empire State Building."

The release does not mention that work on the building was delayed after the death of a construction worker who had been pouring concrete on the 42nd floor, and again after heavy winds loosened a chain that crashed into the building, "showering the street with glass." On the bright side, this means Zlatan Ibrahimović is a tad closer to seeing his new 781-square-foot spread.

“We are thrilled that Trump SoHo has topped off. As the area’s tallest building, it has unparalled panoramic views of the New York City skyline including the Hudson River, Statue of Liberty, and Empire State Building,” stated Donald J. Trump.

“Now that the structure is complete, we will focus on installing the rest of the façade finishes, and completion of the interior work through the winter,” said Alex Sapir, President, The Sapir Organization. Note he doesn't mention sales figures!! In February he claimed it was 62%. Real estate sources in SoHo claim not a single unit has sold since then! This baby is belly up.

There is a law suit by the SoHo Alliance in Supreme Court and it is being investigated by the SEC in Washington for misrepresentation in the marketing and the NYS Attorney-General has modified the Condo Offering Plan to reflect these legal issues and a number of other problems.

Who would buy into this ill-conceived project in this market?

This POS is going to end up in legal wrangling until at least 2020, who is going to buy the remaining 80% unsold units???

The numbers youve heard are complete bull. They sold a little more than 100 units of the 400 available. 25% sold, bankrupt construction lender (istar), and a deflating market.

Get real.

This horrid squalor should have never been built. Let this message be heard loud and clear: No more uptown "white-glove" bullsh1t down here. No more crass vapid consumerism. Beware, we will tear you down until your creditors eat you alive. Now go! Uptown or FiDi where you can roam free amongst the socialites and wannabees. Not joking.

Trump = No class.
